Tanglewood's New Tables Are Splitting Up the Day

October 8, 2026

"My goal was to create the kind of restaurant that becomes part of people's lives," Mack McDonald said before Mack Allen's opened on Post Oak Parkway, "a place where you can celebrate a milestone, close a deal, enjoy an incredible meal with friends or simply have a great night out."

He put closing a deal and celebrating a milestone in the same sentence for good reason. Four places have opened around the edges of Tanglewood since early July, and their posted hours fit together into a full day. A bagel counter on Woodway opens at 6:30 a.m. Two tower-level dining rooms on Post Oak handle lunch through dinner. A sports bar in Uptown Park opens at 4 p.m. and stays open past midnight. Each one has its own peak hours, and together they cover the clock.

6:30 a.m. on Woodway

The earliest shift belongs to Jeff's Bagel Run at 6401 Woodway, Suite 131. Its location page lists daily hours of 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Houston Chronicle listed it among July's openings. It described the Florida-based chain's New York-style bagels in flavors from onion and sesame to cacio e pepe and pepperjack everything, with cream cheeses ranging from mango, mint-Oreo and banana pudding to roasted jalapeño, cucumber dill and lox.

The 2 p.m. close matters as much as the 6:30 open. Jeff's is built for mornings only, and it hands off before the Post Oak dining rooms reach their busiest hours.

Early October mornings also have more going on in Memorial Park. In its September 8 update, the Memorial Park Conservancy described tree-canopy lifting, hazardous-limb removal and habitat work to prepare the park for fall planting. Later this month, the 10th annual Chord Energy Houston Corporate 5K runs October 20 through 22 on the Seymour Lieberman Trail, with a post-run gathering at Clay Family Eastern Glades.

Lunch Moved Into the Towers

The middle of the day now belongs to two large rooms on the ground floors of Uptown high-rises, both run by operators who proved their concepts somewhere else first.

The Audrey Restaurant & Bar opened August 5 at 1616 Post Oak Boulevard, inside the Aspire Post Oak high-rise. Its operator, Culinary Khancepts, first opened the concept in The Woodlands. Omar Khan, the company's president and CEO, said the response there "confirmed what we hoped." The space covers 5,480 square feet and seats up to 163 guests across a dining room, a bar, a semi-private lounge, a private dining room called the Secret Garden and a patio facing Post Oak Boulevard. It describes itself as built for power lunches, happy hours, dinners and weekend brunches. Visit Houston placed it at "the crossroads of Uptown, River Oaks, Tanglewood, Memorial, and The Galleria."

Mack Allen's opened September 14 and takes up the whole first floor of the 5POP office tower at 4400 Post Oak Parkway. Community Impact confirmed the grand opening in a September 24 report. McDonald founded Rouxpour in Sugar Land more than 15 years ago and now runs three locations of the Cajun restaurant. Mack Allen's is a bigger project, at 16,000 square feet with seating for up to 500 across several rooms, a 50-seat bar and a quarter-acre garden courtyard planted with 25 species. Houston-based Montgomery Roth Architecture & Interior Design did the interiors, which include large brass doors and a wine wall. The courtyard sits next to the raw bar.

The two rooms have a lot in common. Both sit inside towers, both say they're built for business lunches, and both have menus for slower meals. Mack Allen's posts separate Lunch, Brunch and Social Hour menus. Its reservations page mentions business lunches and weekend brunches. The Audrey runs happy hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. and serves weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations go through OpenTable. The restaurant recommends booking, though the pages reviewed don't say reservations are required.

After 4 p.m., Uptown Park Takes Over

The late shift is at Uptown Sporting Club, 1131 Uptown Park Boulevard, Suite 1. It opened July 4 under co-owners Roveen Abante and Daniel Chang, both hospitality veterans. It's the only one of the four that doesn't serve lunch. Visit Houston's July report listed a 4 p.m. opening every day, with closing times of 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and midnight on Sunday. The club's own site says it's open seven days for happy hour, dinner and late night, but it doesn't post times, so it's worth checking before a late visit.

The setup is built around game days, with a 1,000-square-foot patio, eight large TVs and a 115-inch LED screen. At launch, the owners said they would feature Texans Sundays and other major sports, with game-day specials and recurring programming to follow. No fall schedule has been published since then, so the venue itself is the best place to confirm what's running on a given weekend.

Sunday Runs Through The Audrey

When you line up the posted hours, The Audrey carries Sunday almost on its own. Jeff's lists the same 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. hours every day. Uptown Sporting Club's July schedule has it opening at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Mack Allen's has a brunch menu, but the hours on its OpenTable page don't list Sunday at all. The Audrey is open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with brunch until 3 p.m.

So the stretch between Jeff's 2 p.m. close and Uptown Sporting Club's 4 p.m. open is covered only by the dining room at 1616 Post Oak Boulevard. Mack Allen's has been open less than a month and doesn't post Sunday hours, so call ahead before planning a Sunday brunch there.

One morning addition may also be coming. In June, Community Impact reported that Joe & The Juice planned a location at 1101 Uptown Park Boulevard, Suite 10, with a target of late fall 2026. No opening had been confirmed as of early October.

One Weekday, Covered End to End

Here is how a Tuesday lays out with just these four addresses, using their posted hours:

  1. 6:30 a.m. Jeff's Bagel Run opens on Woodway.
  2. 11 a.m. Mack Allen's on Post Oak Parkway and The Audrey on Post Oak Boulevard both open for lunch.
  3. 2 p.m. Jeff's closes.
  4. 3 p.m. Mack Allen's switches from lunch to dinner, and happy hour starts at The Audrey.
  5. 4 p.m. Uptown Sporting Club opens in Uptown Park.
  6. 9 p.m. Mack Allen's posted weekday dinner service ends.
  7. 10 p.m. The Audrey closes for the night.
  8. 1 a.m. Uptown Sporting Club's posted weekday close.

That works out to nearly 19 straight hours of new options within a short drive of Tanglewood. All four opened in July or later, each one run by an operator who chose these corridors on purpose. The Audrey came from The Woodlands, Mack Allen's from a Sugar Land restaurateur, Jeff's from a Florida chain, and Uptown Sporting Club from two hospitality veterans who picked Uptown Park for their sports bar.

Restaurateurs are paying close attention to these corridors, and Holly Campbell Minter follows them closely too.
